Sussex Blanks Essex on Sophomore Day

Newark, NJ | Essex CC Athletic Department took time to honor and recongize our Women's Soccer Sophomores before their match up against Sussex County Community College. With three Sophomores graduating, their impact they had on the women's soccer program will always be felt. Sophomores: Keylee Campbell, Ilana Lashley and Angie Diane Chouna have devoted their time on the field for the Wolverines for the past two seasons and we wish them nothing but their best in their future endeavors.

In a commanding performance, the Sussex County Community College women's soccer team overwhelmed Essex County College 5–0, showcasing a potent offense and stingy defense from start to finish.

Sussex struck early and often, applying aggressive pressure and converting on key opportunities. By halftime, the Skylanders had already locked up a decisive lead, thanks to a flurry of precise attacking and clinical finishing. The Essex defense was unable to contain Sussex's dynamic attackers, and the Essex goalkeeper faced heavy traffic for much of the half.

Essex attempted to regroup after the break, but Sussex maintained momentum and composure. The Skylanders' defense remained firm, and their attackers kept probing, eventually finding another well-timed goal to put the game out of reach. Despite Essex's efforts, the match never truly tightened, and Sussex comfortably closed out the shutout.

On the Essex side, Martine Joazard and Brittanya Johnson contributed the only shots on goal (3 and 1 respectively), but none found the back of the net. Goalkeeper Brihana Staple was under siege, facing 17 shots and yielding 5 goals, while making 12 saves.

The Wolverines return to action Saturday, October 18th for their final game of the regular season against Lackawanna College.
