Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (S.A.A.C.)

Essex County College Athletic Department

What is SAAC?

The Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) at Essex County College is a leadership group made up of student-athletes representing each intercollegiate athletic team. SAAC provides a platform for student-athletes to share their experiences and offer input on the rules, regulations, and policies that impact their time at Essex. The committee plays a vital role in strengthening communication between student-athletes and the Athletics Department.

WHAT IS THE PURPOSE OF SAAC?

The purpose of SAAC is to act as a liaison and maintain lines of communication between student-athletes and the athletic administration to advance the interests and pool the resources of all athletic programs at Essex County College.

WHO CAN BE A MEMBER?

Any full-time enrolled student-athlete is eligible to be a member of SAAC. At the conclusion of each academic year, teams select representatives for the upcoming year. Typically, each team selects two representatives—ideally one freshman and one sophomore. Teams with fewer than 10 student-athletes may select one representative.

WHEN DOES SAAC MEET?

SAAC meets at least once per month (with additional meetings scheduled as needed for events) from September through May. Meetings are held in Room 401B in the Physical Education Building (PEB).

WHO IS INVITED TO ATTEND SAAC MEETINGS?

SAAC meetings are open to all student-athletes, coaching staff, Athletics Department personnel, college administrators, and interested faculty members.

WHO RUNS SAAC MEETINGS?

SAAC is led by student-athlete leadership, including two co-chairs and two vice co-chairs who are elected annually. These leaders are responsible for setting meeting agendas and guiding discussions.
