Wolverines Drop Season Opener

Newark, NJ | Essex County College opened up the 2025 season against tough opponent Harcum College this week. 

The first half began with a spark from Harcum College as they were able to find themselves in control early, testing the Wolverines' defense early and often. 15 minutes into the game, Sara Garcia Montoya converted from the PK spot, giving Harcum the advantage early on. Harcum kept the pressure on for the entirety of the first half and found themselves 5 goals ahead at the half. 

Essex battled hard and fought as long as they could. Brihana Staple, faced 19 shots on goal and collected 11 saves. Ilana Lashley found herself with three opportunities but was unable to put any away. 

The women return to action Saturday, September 13th when they travel to Sussex County Community College to start Region XIX play and compete in the inaugural GSAC Cup!
