Kadina Deeble Ready for National Spotlight in Women’s 100m Hurdles Prelims

HOBBS, N.M., Under the bright lights of the 2026 NJCAA Division I Outdoor Track & Field Championships, all eyes turn toward Essex County College sophomore Kadina Deeble as she prepares to step into one of the fastest women's 100-meter hurdle fields in the nation.

For Kadina Deeble, this moment has been building all spring.

The Wolverines sprinter enters the national championships after putting together a breakout outdoor campaign that transformed her from a regional contender into one of the NJCAA's premier hurdle threats. Her signature performance came at the Mets Outdoor Track & Field Championships on April 3, where she exploded to a personal-best 14.09 seconds, a mark that vaulted her near the top of the national qualifying list and firmly into championship conversation.

That time was not a one-off performance. It became the standard for a season defined by consistency and speed.

Week after week, Deeble stacked quality races against strong competition. She opened the outdoor season with a winning 14.59 performance at the Ramapo Invitational before continuing her surge with times of 14.23, 14.42, and 14.56 throughout April competition.

What separates elite hurdlers at championship meets is rhythm, the ability to stay technically sound while sprinting at full velocity between barriers. Deeble's progression this season showed exactly that. Her hurdle mechanics sharpened with every outing, while her flat sprint speed improved as well, highlighted by a season-best 12.63 in the open 100 meters.

Now comes the biggest test.

The women's 100m hurdles at the NJCAA Championships features one of the deepest fields in junior college track and field, with several athletes entering under the 14-second barrier. Deeble's 14.09 seed places her among the nation's top competitors and gives Essex County College a legitimate chance to make noise on the national stage.

Championship hurdle races are often decided by fractions of a second, one clean start, one smooth clearance, one perfectly timed lean at the finish line. That's where experience matters, and Deeble arrives battle-tested after competing in high-level meets throughout the season and previously qualifying for NJCAA Indoor Nationals earlier this academic year.

The preliminaries are scheduled for today in Hobbs beginning at 1:40 PM MT, where Deeble will look to punch her ticket into the national final and continue what has already become one of the strongest hurdle seasons in recent Essex County College history.

When the blocks settle and the gun fires, the Wolverines sophomore will carry more than just a lane assignment onto the track, she'll carry the momentum of an entire season built for this exact moment.
