ECC Lady Wolverines Track Team Place 11th at METS Indoor Championships
Staten Island, NY - The Essex County College women's indoor track and field team delivered a strong showing at the METS Indoor Track & Field Championships on Friday, January 30, at the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex. Competing against a deep and competitive field, the Lady Wolverines finished 11th out of 15 teams overall and were the only junior college program represented at the championship.
Essex was led by an impressive performance in the women's 60-meter hurdles, where Kadina Deeble and Ma'Avian Williams went 2–3 in the finals. Deeble posted a personal-best time of 8.86 seconds to finish second after qualifying third in the preliminaries. Williams followed closely behind, placing third with a time of 8.87, improving on her preliminary mark of 8.92. Their podium finishes highlighted ECC's ability to compete with four-year programs at the championship level.
Williams also had a strong day in the women's 60 meters, advancing to the finals and finishing fifth overall with a time of 7.89 after running 7.84 in the prelims. Deeble competed in the same event, clocking a personal-best 8.12 in the preliminary round.
Alliyaha Morgan was a key contributor across multiple events, placing 11th in the 200 meters with a time of 26.39 and 14th in the 400 meters at 1:01.84. Nebia Montrope added another personal-best performance for ECC, finishing 12th in the 500 meters with a time of 1:24.91.
The women's 4x200-meter relay team of Morgan, Williams, Montrope, and Deeble capped off the meet with a sixth-place finish, posting a time of 1:47.82.
Competing as the lone JUCO squad in the field, the Lady Wolverines proved they belong on the championship stage, closing the indoor season with multiple personal bests and podium finishes against elite competition.
The Lady Wolverines return to the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex on Friday, February 6, when they compete in the Fast Track National Invitational, looking to build on their strong championship performance.
