Essex County Falls 2-1 on the Road to Ocean County

Newark, NJ | Despite a strong start and a dominant showing in goal, the Essex County College women's soccer team came up just short in a 2-1 loss to Ocean County College on October 11.

Essex opened the scoring in the 24th minute when Martine Joazard finished off a well-placed assist from Xiomara Rivera, putting the Wolverines ahead 1-0. Ocean County answered before the half, as Samantha Campanile leveled the match in the 42nd minute with an unassisted effort.

The deciding goal came midway through the second half, when Alison Serrano connected with a pass from Angelina DeCesare to give Ocean a 2-1 lead in the 75th minute.

Essex generated significant offensive pressure, outshooting Ocean 9-0, including 8 second-half attempts, but couldn't find the equalizer. Despite not registering a single official shot on goal, Ocean County made the most of their opportunities.

On the defensive end, Essex goalkeeper stood tall with 13 saves, keeping the Wolverines within striking distance throughout the match. Ocean's goalkeeper did not record a save.

The match turned heated late, as Ocean's Keylee Campbell received a yellow card in the 84th minute followed by a red card in the 85th, forcing her side to finish with 10 players. However, Essex couldn't capitalize in the final moments.

The Wolverines now turn their focus to their next matchup.
