Newark, NJ | With a strong offensive push from Rivera, Lashley, and Joazard leads Wolverines to their first win of the season.
It was an exciting GSAC match up Wednesday afternoon as both teams battled in the first half. Essex opened up the scoring in the first minute when Angie Diane Chouna found herself opened in the box. RCSJ - Cumberland was able to equalized from a shot by Cadence Serrano. Ilana Lashley found herself putting the Wolverines back on top 2 minutes later when Xiomara Rivera play the ball across the box. The battled continued throughout the first half however, the Wolverines were able to go into the half with a 4-3 thanks to the brace by Rivera.
With the slight advantage at the half, the Wolverines didn't slow down. They started the second strong and were eager to add onto their lead. The Dukes were able to keep them to a one goal lead up until the 63rd minute when Martine Joazard was able to bury the ball from 22 yards out for her third goal of the season and she didn't stop there of the night. She found herself opened in the box and was able to connect with a ball played in by Rivera, securing her brace.
The Wolverines put up 13 shots with 12 being on target while the Dukes and 6 shots while capitalizing 3 of their chances.
Essex returns to action Saturday afternoon for a Region XIX match up against Lackawanna College.
