Essex Women’s Basketball Opens Spring Season with Home Win Over Camden
Newark, N.J. — The Essex County College women's basketball team opened the spring portion of its season in impressive fashion, defeating Camden County College 86–55 on Saturday, January 10, in Newark.
Essex set the tone early and maintained control throughout the game, using balanced scoring, strong rebounding, and defensive pressure to pull away from Camden. The Wolverines shot 48.5 percent from the field and outrebounded their opponents 52–37.
Sophomore guard, Aniya Brown led all scorers with 20 points, adding seven rebounds and five assists. Freshman, Gabriella Brown contributed a strong all-around performance with 17 points, five steals, and four blocks, while freshman foward, Essence Cushionberry recorded a double-double with 16 points and 10 rebounds. Sophomore center, Kayley Lynch chipped in 10 points and eight rebounds in the victory.
Essex also received key contributions from the bench, highlighted by sophomore guard, Natalie Fonseca's 11 points and three assists.
The Wolverines are back in action on Tuesday, January 13, as they host the Howard Community College Dragons at 5:00 p.m.
