Essex County College Women Pull Away Late for 61–48 Win at Lackawanna

 Scranton, PA- The Essex County College women's basketball team delivered a strong all-around performance Tuesday night, using a decisive third quarter to earn a 61–48 road victory over Lackawanna College.

After a tight opening period, Essex began to take control in the second quarter and then broke the game open with a 21–11 advantage in the third. The Wolverines' defensive pressure and dominance on the boards proved to be the difference, as they held Lackawanna to just 17 points combined in the middle two quarters.

Essence Cushionberry and Gabriella Brown led the offensive attack with 17 and 16 points, respectively. Cushionberry added four rebounds and a block, while Brown filled the stat sheet with six steals, showcasing Essex's aggressive perimeter defense. Mia-Marie Thomas orchestrated the offense with six assists, and Natalie Fonseca posted with 10 rebounds to go along with five steals.

Kayley Lynch provided key minutes off the bench, contributing six points, five rebounds, and two blocks, helping Essex control the paint. Overall, the Wolverines won the rebounding battle 52–41 and forced 24 turnovers, turning defense into consistent scoring opportunities.

Despite a late push by Lackawanna in the fourth quarter, Essex County College stayed composed and closed out the game at the free-throw line, finishing 13-of-20 from the stripe.

The win capped a successful road trip for the Essex County College women, as they continue to build confidence and momentum heading deeper into the season.

The next game will be home on Thursday, Dec. 18th at 5pm against Mercer County Community College.
