Essex Women Roll Past Salem CCC 64–35 Behind Dominant Team Effort
Newark, N.J. — The Essex County College women's basketball team delivered a commanding 64–35 victory over Salem Community College this past Saturday in Newark.
The Wolverines controlled the game from the opening tip, powered by a trio of double-figure scorers. Freshman forward, Essence Cushionberry led the effort with a dominant double-double, posting 14 points, 12 rebounds, 4 assists, and 4 steals while shooting 6-for-14 from the field.
Sophomore guard, Aniya Brown matched Cushionberry's scoring output, finishing with 14 points, including three made three-pointers, along with 6 rebounds and 5 assists. Sophomore point guard, Mia-Marie Thomas added another spark, tallying 13 points, knocking down three shots from beyond the arc, and contributing 4 assists and 3 steals.
Off the bench, sophomore guard, Natalie Fonseca provided efficient scoring with 7 points and 6 rebounds, while sophmore center, Kayley Lynch made a major impact on the glass, securing a game-high 13 rebounds to go along with 7 points.
Essex dominated the rebounding battle, pulling down 50 total boards, and shot 35.2% from the field while holding Salem to limited second-chance opportunities. The Wolverines' defensive pressure also forced numerous turnovers, helping them build and maintain a comfortable lead throughout the contest.
Essex will face another regional conference opponent in County College of Morris on Tuesday, November 25th in Randolph at 5:00 p.m
