Union, NJ – The Essex County College men's outdoor track and field team competed Thursday evening at the Kean University Invitational, taking part in a rare weekday meet. The Wolverines made the short trip ready to compete and turned in several strong performances against a competitive field.
Leading the way for Essex was Alejandro Arreaga, who delivered an outstanding distance performance, earning a second-place finish in the 5000-meter run while also setting a new personal record. Arreaga continued his strong meet with a fourth-place finish in the 1500-meter run, crossing the line in 4:33.10.
In the 800-meter run, Oyodele Ayotunde put together one of the top performances of the day for the Wolverines, finishing second overall with a time of 2:04.51.
The 400-meter dash saw multiple Essex athletes compete well in a large field of 38 runners. Gideon Griffin led the group with a third-place finish in 52.50, followed closely by Raziel O'Mealy, who placed fourth in 54.70. Brandon Williams secured an eighth-place finish in 56.30, while Jamali Campbell rounded out the Wolverines' efforts with an 18th-place finish in 58.40.
"Our men competed with great energy and focus," said Essex Head Coach. "Alejandro's PR and podium finish, along with strong showings across multiple events, highlight the progress this group is making."
The Wolverines will look to carry this momentum forward as they continue their outdoor season. The Wolverines are back on the track as they compete in the 2026 METS Outdoor Championships on Friday, April 3rd, hosted at the famed Icahn Stadium in Queens, NY.
