Weekes Leads Essex Men Forward at Fast Track National Invite

Staten Island, NY - The Essex men's indoor track and field team continued its steady progression Friday, February 6, at the Fast Track National Invite held at the Ocean Breeze Indoor Track Complex, with the Wolverines showing improvement across the sprint events as they push toward NJCAA national qualifying standards.

Sophomore sprinter Sanjay Weekes once again led the charge for Essex, delivering strong performances in both the 60 meters and 200 meters. In the 60, Weekes placed 14th out of 50 competitors with a time of 7.24, continuing to close the gap on the NJCAA Division I qualifying standard. He later returned in the 200 meters, finishing 33rd out of 100 runners in 22.58, another solid effort as he builds momentum heading into the final stretch of the indoor season.

In the 400 meters, Essex saw competitive efforts from its mid-sprint group in a large field of 108 athletes. Sophomore, Issah Abdul Rahaman led the trio with a time of 53.51, placing 79th overall. Sophomore, Ayotunde Ayodele followed closely behind in 53.63 (81st), while Raziel O'Meally clocked 54.04 to finish 90th. The tight grouping of times reflects the team's continued development and depth in the event.

With consistent improvements and valuable race experience against deep competition, the Wolverines continue to trend upward as championship season approaches.

Essex will have one final opportunity to sharpen its performances at the Fast Track Last Chance Invitational on Friday, February 20, at Ocean Breeze before traveling to Topeka, Kansas for the NJCAA Division I Indoor National Championship. As the postseason nears, the men's squad remains focused on fine-tuning performances and making a final push toward national qualifying marks.
