Essex Wolverines Men’s Track Compete at Spartan Invitational
Staten Island, N.Y. — The Essex County College men's track and field team competed at the St. Thomas Aquinas College Spartan Invitational on Friday, January 9, held at the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex.
The Wolverines turned in several standout performances, highlighted by freshman Iddrisu Musah, who clocked a personal-best 21.81 seconds, just shy of the national qualifying standard of 21.60 seconds.
Musah also posted a strong showing in the men's 60 meters, finishing third out of 93 competitors with a personal-best 6.96 seconds. Sophomore, Sanjay Weekes also set a personal best in the 60 meters, finishing 15th in 7.14 seconds.
In the 400 meters, Weekes captured first place with a personal-best 49.55 seconds, while sophomore teammates Issah Abdul-Rahaman (51.97 PB) and Raziel O'Meally (53.07 PB) also posted strong times. The Wolverines' relay teams excelled as well: the men's 4x400 team of SanjayWeekes, Gideon Griffin, Issah Abdul-Rahaman, and Iddrisu Musah finished second in 3:20.64, and the 4x200 team placed eighth (1:35.17).
Other notable performances included sophomore Ayotunde Oyodele in the 800 meters (2:05.17), freshman, Matthew Grano in the mile (4:33.36), and a fourth-place finish in the 4000-meter distance medley by freshman Alejandro Arreaga, sophomore Isaiah Biggs, Ayotunde Oyodele, and Matthew Grano (11:14.89). Raziel O'Meally, freshman Brandon Williams, Isaiah Biggs, and Alejandro Arreaga also recorded personal-best performances across multiple events.
The Wolverines are back in action on Friday, January 16, as they compete in the Ramapo College Invitational at the Jersey City Armory.
