Penic and Driest Power Essex to a Standout 2025–2026 Season
Newark, NJ- From the 2025–2026 season, our top two point scorers — Sophomore Kristijan Penic and Freshman Noel Driest — played a major role in our success on the pitch. Penic ranked among the best in Division II junior colleges, finishing 4th nationally in goals with 23, which also secured him a 4th-place national ranking in total points. Second, in NJCAA in total points as well.
As a team, we found the back of the net 75 times, placing us 6th among all Division II junior colleges in total goals scored.
Driest wrapped up his freshman campaign with 28 total points, contributing 10 goals and 8 assists. We also received strong production from Roland Kabore, who matched Driest with 10 goals and added 4 assists, finishing third on the team with 24 points.
Behind these standout performances, Coach Pedro Sousa and his staff — Zico Nunes and Zachary Sharenow — guided the team to an impressive 10–4 season.
Exciting things are ahead for Essex County College as the program prepares to reload for another successful campaign. Stay tuned!
