Newark, NJ - Essex Wolverines get back in the win column against conference opponent Mercer Vikings 97-93 that took not one, not two, but three overtime's!
It was a low scoring game where both teams struggled to get the ball in the basket. Essex would take a one point lead 29-28 at the end of the half.
In the second half it was back and forth scoring for the Vikings and Wolverines. Mercer would take a three point lead with ten seconds left. Essex would design a play for sophomore guard, Amir Carter Smith who would nail a three to send it to overtime.
It would take three overtime's but the Wolverines would have more gas in the engine to get the win. Sophomore guard, Amir Carter Smith not only saved the Wolverines with the game tying three, the sophomore guard finished the night with 20 points. Two other huge contributors in the win were freshman forward, Jaidan Gilzene and sophomore guard, Koi Kirk Jr. with 26 points a piece.
Essex looks to stay on the winning page as they head to New York to face the Suny Sullivan Saturday, December 9th at 1:00pm.
