Haverhill, Massachusetts - The Essex Wolverines suffered a tough loss in their first game of the 2023-24 season losing to Northern Essex Community College 65-62.
Essex started the game slow but would pick up the intensity to take the lead at half 31-26. Two big contributors from the Wolverines were freshman forward, Jaidan Gilzene who would lead the team in points with 25 and 10 rebounds and sophomore forward, Koi Kirk with 14 points and 8 rebounds.
In the second half the Wolverines would take a 6 point lead but the Knights of Northern Essex would make a comeback and ultimately steal the game from the Wolverines in the closing minutes.
Essex will look to turn the page as they get back on the court on Sunday, November 12th as they face the Bulldogs of Bunker Hill at 1:00pm.
