Essex County College Soccer Teams Participate in Youth Soccer Clinic at Girls and Boys Club in Newark

Newark, NJ - On Friday, March 6th. Student-athletes from the soccer programs at Essex County College recently participated in a community outreach event in partnership with New Jersey Youth Soccer and the Soccer Forward Foundation, working with youth from the Boys and Girls Clubs of Newark in Newark.

The event brought a day of soccer activities focused on skill development, teamwork, and fun. Essex County College men's and women's soccer players assisted with drills, small-sided games, and mentorship opportunities, helping introduce young participants to the fundamentals of the sport in a welcoming and supportive environment.

The initiative was designed to expand opportunities for youth in the community while highlighting the impact of collaboration between organizations committed to growing the game. The event demonstrated the partnership between the Soccer Forward Foundation, New York Life, New Jersey Youth Soccer, and the Boys and Girls Clubs of Newark.

One of the key objectives of the event was to increase access to soccer by providing a safe, fun, and engaging experience for youth in the Newark community. Participants were also introduced to New Jersey Youth Soccer's Let's Play Program, which aims to make soccer more accessible and inclusive for young players who may not otherwise have the opportunity to participate.

For the Essex County College student-athletes, the event provided an opportunity to give back to the local community while serving as role models for the next generation of players. Throughout the clinic, youth participants had the chance to interact with the college athletes, ask questions about playing at the next level, and experience the excitement of learning the game from active collegiate players.

The community clinic also aligned with the growing momentum surrounding the international women's soccer tournament, the SheBelieves Cup, further emphasizing the importance of expanding opportunities for both boys and girls to participate in soccer.

By bringing together community organizations, corporate partners, and collegiate student-athletes, the event highlighted how collaborative efforts can create meaningful opportunities for youth development through sport.

Essex County College Athletics remains committed to supporting community engagement initiatives and looks forward to continuing its partnership with organizations that promote youth development and access to sport throughout the Newark area.
